Urban Growth Boundaries are intended to be dynamic, in that they should be re-assessed and re-defined as development occurs. The process for defining them could be based on time, assessing the capacity every ten years; or capacity, identifying a peak capacity indicator that would trigger a new assessment. The two boundaries represent two potential contours around municipalities in McHenry County that would be sufficient to contain all development projected from LEAM simulations between 2006 and 2030. The initial boundary, or interior contour (dark blue), was designed to contain 80% of the total growth between 2006 and 2030. The expanded boundary (light blue) was designed to contain 100% of the projected growth in McHenry County between 2006 and 2030.
